Oliver Peoples refers to a company that manufactures different kinds of eyewear, from glasses and sunglasses. They have actually been doing so since 1986 when Larry Leight and Dennis Leight brought the company to fruition. In 2006, Luxottica's subsidiary, Oakley, bought the company for $55.7 million.
Oliver Peoples came about in West Hollywood, California, and was first seen on a Vogue cover that came out in Germany back in 1987. Since then, though, they have already been featured in various fashion magazines catering to both men and women, including GQ (France), GQ (UK), Men's Vogue, Women's Vogue, Elle and Cosmopolitan. In March 2010 alone, they were actually featured in a total of eight popular fashion magazines.
Although Oliver Peoples started selling vintage frames from a simple boutique, they now include various brands, such as Oliver Peoples Vision, Paul Smith Spectacles and Mosley Tribes. They are most well-known for the basic glasses cases and very colorful cleaning cloths with genuine spectacles, though.
Aside from being sold in retail outlets of Oliver Peoples, their glasses can also be found at Barney's New York, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom, ReadingGlasses.com, Bloomingdale's and Solstice Sunglass Boutique. In Canada, their collections also exist at several premium optical boutiques, including Kirkland's Oasis Optique.

This cult eyewear brand has recently re-released its vintage classic collection in the form of limited edition styles. Back in 1986, Larry Leight bought an original estate collection consisting of vintage eyewear made in the U.S.A. This collection included a ton of gorgeous filigree metal and rimless frames, as well as clip-on metal sunglasses that iconic companies in the U.S. had made, like American Optical and Bausch & Lomb. All of these frames were in mint condition and never worn. They were even still in their original packaging. This particular collection is actually what inspired Larry Leight to start his very own brand. By the late 1980s, Oliver Peoples came about with its first frames inspired by the Art Deco age with a hint the styling and fashion of the 1960s.
More recently, Larry Leight became inspired to look through his personal collection of original designs by his own company. While doing this, he re-discovered various brand-defining and iconic styles that still had original vintage tints in rare shades. Some of his favorites could also be found in this collection, such as the OP-505, which had antique filigreed metal temple detailing - the first style ever introduced by Oliver Peoples to begin with.
The OP-1955 could be found there, as well, which can be recognized by its contrasting colors of tortoise shells. The O'Malley was a part of this, too. Named after Peter O'Malley, the Dodgers manager, this is also the style that can be seen in the classic movie "American Psycho" starring Christian Bale, who wears it and has turned it into a highly recognized frame in the market.
The Victory sunglasses of Oliver Peoples, on the other hand, can be seen in the television show called Burn Notice, where, Michael Westen, the main character, wears the pair with Cognac lenses and in a size 55 quite often.
Aside from that, Oliver Peoples has also collaborated with other celebrities, such as Zooey Deschanel. She actually has a frame in her name after the collaboration was made after "Catch a Tuesday", her second highly successful short film.
Julia Gillard, the Prime Minister of Australia, has recently begun to wear Ashton in Red Tortoise Gradient, as well. The first time she wore it was at the National Press Club during the announcement of the 2013 Federal Election, which is the longest election campaign in the history of Australia at nine whole months.
